Carrying one song’s impression across many images

This work was for two songs by Old School Band: OLD SCHOOL BAND and I’ve Just Decided to Live (《난 이제 막 살기로 했어》). Starting from member photos and costume and logo references the band sent me, I first made three style drafts of how each member would appear as a character in the video, to set the direction. The test was whether the same people and mood held across the whole song.

Drafts on a loop

From October to December 2025, each deliverable went through a draft–feedback–revision loop.

  • Cover art — After delivering the first draft in mid-October, I made a revision based on the band’s feedback and kept reworking it until the final version at the end of November. Graphic elements such as graffiti were made as separate layers and composited.
  • Thumbnails — I made five options and delivered them in a comparison document, then prepared the chosen option in three formats (original, web, and mobile) for delivery.
  • Direction drafts — I built an animatic by placing an image for each shot on a shot-numbered timeline covering the full length of the song. Each round widened its coverage, so we could see which image sat in which section of the song before editing began.

The images were made with generative tools and retouched in Photoshop, and the drafts were edited in Premiere Pro. Most of the real work was choosing, from many generated results, the scenes that fit the editing rhythm and kept the characters consistent.

I carried the same visual language through to the release cover art and the final thumbnails.
